HP: Grafické karty Nvidia (G84 a G86) vykazují chyby už od Listopadu 2007

Hewlett-Packard lists 24 laptop model variations affected by a widely reported Nvidia graphics chip defect. HP said the flaw has been a warranty issue since November of last year...

..."HP has taken appropriate actions for any HP notebook products that use the known affected Nvidia chips," an HP spokesperson said Monday, responding to an e-mail query. "We initiated a customer program to address this issue in November 2007, and have notified registered customers who have notebook PC models that are included in this HP program.

Přejde Apple na nvidia chipsety?

Rumors are going around that Apple is about to cheat on Intel with one of its rivals, namely NVIDIA. The reason is supposed to be Intel's lackluster chipsets, especially the integrated graphics. Alas, understandable but at the same time it would seem like a very drastic move that might anger Intel.
At PC Perspective they've posted an article on the topic where they list possible reason why Apple's next generation Mac systems will have NVIDIA chipsets.

The pieces just fit too well:

• NVIDIA has been developing an answer to Intel’s Montevina chip for a while and has not been shy about it
• That same MCP79 chip has the ability to scale from ultra-low power versions to small-form-factor machines fitting in with Apple’s range of products
• A new refresh on mobility discrete GPUs for the fall (and support for HybridPower and HybridSLI) combines with MCP79 for a very impressive mobile lineup
• Insiders pointing at a switch in Apple’s MacBook hardware

Inno3D inovuje GeForce 9800GT předinstalovanými Arctic Cooling a ZeroTherm chladiči

Inno3D has come up with two models of the GeForce 9800 GT graphics cards with factory-fitted coolers made by Arctic Cooling and ZeroTherm. These products branded under the iChill banner use the ZeroTherm Hurricane and Arctic Cooling Accelero Twin Turbo coolers and are accordingly named Hurricane and Twin Turbo.

Both cards use identical specifications, a 700 MHz core clock with 1500 MHz shader and 2000 MHz memory clock speeds. Inno3D claims these coolers allow high-performance settings and can maintain silent operation of as low as 0.6 sone. The cards have pre-applied Arctic Cooling MX-2 thermal interface compound.

Chlapi jak to vidítě s 55 nm verzí GTX 280 (spíš si myslím, že se bude jmenovat GTX 290)? Potom co dneska předvedla Ati s tím řvoucím cca o 30 % výkonnějším přímotopem jsem se definitivně rozhodl počkat na Nvidii. Jak to vidíte časově? Myslím, že není nereálné podle toho co jsem dnes viděl, aby nová Nvidia dorovnala HD4870X2.

No moc růžově bych to neviděl... pokud to bude jen die-shrink, tak se dočkáš max. lepší spotřeby a vyšších taktů, ale co jsem zatím viděl, tak G200 s vyššími takty nějak extra výkonově neškáluje. Možná to bude die-shrink s nějakými zásahy. Návrh 65nm G200 se musel ručně upravovat než šel do výroby, tak třeba budou nějaké úpravy i u G200b...

...ale bůh ví jakého "králíka" nvidia ze svého kouzelného klobouku vytáhne...

Jinak tenhle dotaz by jsi měl směřovat spíš sem - GF 280/260 GTX - technologie, obecné dotazy atd.

Stejně si myslím, že nV uvede něco jako "GTX260X2" na 55nm. Nevěřím tomu, že single GPU GTX280+ (290) podrtí HD4870X2.
U "vrzounů" spekulují s takty GTX280+ cca 650/1600/2200, nicméně spotřeba u dual-GPU se musí vejít do 300W

Moje spekulace: GTX260+ X2, ale paměti z "GTX280" => 650/1600/2200 při 192 SP (2x).

ale pořád bude 55 nm verze GTX 280 lepší koupě ..tedy pro majitele 24 palcových LCD..už jen kvůli PhysX, vyrovnanějšímu výkonu, podpoře her atd. Navíc s ovladači 180 (BigBen2) by mělo dojít k výraznému výkonnostnímu nárůstu. Osobně to vidím spíš na dorovnání výkonu a souhlasím s tím, že bude duální karta 2xGTX260. Tak jako tak lepší koupí je zatím singl karta... Nejvíc super na téhle situaci je, že si koupíme skvělý výkon za polovinu ceny oproti roku 2006/2007.

[Press Release] NVIDIA předkládá výsledky za Q2 fiskálního roku 2009 & ohlášuje zvýšení odkupu akcií

NVIDIA Corporation today reported financial results for the second quarter of fiscal 2009 ended July 27, 2008. For the second quarter of fiscal 2009, revenue decreased to $892.7 million compared to $935.3 million for the second quarter of fiscal 2008, a decrease of five percent. For the six months ended July 27, 2008, revenue increased to $2.05 billion compared to $1.78 billion for the six months ended July 29, 2007, an increase of 15 percent.

During the second quarter of fiscal 2009, NVIDIA recorded a $196 million charge against cost of revenue to cover anticipated customer warranty, repair, return, replacement and associated costs arising from a weak die/packaging material set in certain versions of our previous generation MCP and GPU products used in notebook systems.

NVIDIA's results for the second quarter of fiscal 2009, computed in accordance with U.S. generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), included a net loss of $120.9 million, or a loss of $0.22 per share. Non-GAAP net income for the second quarter of fiscal 2009, which excludes stock-based compensation charges, the non-recurring warranty charge against cost of revenue, and the associated tax impact, was $74.5 million, or $0.13 per diluted share.

GAAP net income for the six months ended July 27, 2008 was $55.9 million, or $0.09 per diluted share, compared to $305.0 million, or $0.51 per diluted share, for the six months ended July 29, 2007. Non-GAAP net income for the six months ended July 27, 2008, which excludes stock-based compensation charges, the non-recurring warranty charge against cost of revenue, and the associated tax impact, was $286.2 million, or $0.49 per diluted share, compared to $362.5 million, or $0.62 per diluted share, for the six months ended July 29, 2007.

"Our Q2 financial performance was disappointing. The desktop PC market around the world weakened during the quarter. And our miscalculation of competitive price position further pressured our desktop GPU business. We have a great product line-up and, having taken the necessary pricing actions, we are strongly positioned again. Our focus now is to drive cost improvements and to further enhance our competitiveness through the many exciting initiatives we have planned for the rest of the year," said Jen-Hsun Huang, president and CEO of NVIDIA. "In contrast, the rest of our businesses did not exhibit the same dynamics as our desktop business. The notebook GPU, MCP, and Professional Solutions groups grew a combined 27 percent year-over year."

Mr. Huang added, "Though we approach the near term with caution, we remain very optimistic about the expanding universe of visual computing and the exciting growth opportunities made possible by CUDA, our general purpose parallel computing architecture."

NVIDIA also announced an increase of $1 billion to its stock repurchase program under which it may now purchase up to $2.7 billion of its common stock. Through July 27, 2008, NVIDIA has repurchased 68.0 million shares under the stock repurchase program for a total cost of $1.16 billion.

The repurchases will be made in the open market, in privately negotiated transactions, or in structured share repurchase programs, and may be made from time to time or in one or more larger repurchases. The program will be conducted in compliance with the Securities and Exchange Commission's Rule 10b-18 and applicable legal requirements and shall be subject to market conditions and other factors.

The program does not obligate NVIDIA to acquire any particular amount of common stock and the program may be modified or suspended at any time at the Company's discretion. The purchases will be funded from available working capital.
