We've learned from industry sources that AMD / ATI has already won the GPU deal for the next generation XboX console. It looks like Microsoft was happy with first Xeons GPU and it wants to continue using the same, especially since the new ATI GPU should keep the compatibility with legacy games.
The consoles refresh was supposed to happen in 2010 but due to the recession both Microsoft and Sony have decided to push its plans for 2012 and keep the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 alive for more than it was originally planned.
We don’t know how the GPU looks like but judging from the timeline when it is supposed to be delivered we suspect that it might be a 28nm part.
Oproti předchozímu kvartálu vzrostly prodeje Intelu o 25.2%, AMD o 30.2% a nVidie o 3.3%.Compared to the previous quarter, Intel enjoyed 25.2% growth in shipments, AMD saw 30.2%, and Nvidia just 3.3%. Compared to the same quarter a year before, JPR registered growth of 14.6% for Intel, 3.1% for AMD, and -4% for Nvidia (yep, that's a minus sign).

AMD says: "Note: AMD’s DirectX 9 ATI Radeon graphics accelerators are not officially supported under Windows 7. If the user chooses to, they can install the ATI Catalyst Windows Vista graphics driver under Windows 7. Please be aware that none of the new Windows 7 graphics driver (WDDM 1.1) features are supported (as the Windows Vista level graphics driver is limited to WDDM 1.0 level support). Using the ATI Catalyst Windows Vista driver under Windows 7 is not officially supported by AMD, and as such AMD will not provide any form of customer support for users running in this configuration."
The list is quite long and it includes ATI Radeon 9500 Series, ATI Radeon 9550 Series, ATI Radeon 9600 Series, ATI Radeon 9700 Series, ATI Radeon 9800 Series, ATI Radeon X300 Series, ATI Radeon X550 Series, ATI Radeon X600 Series, ATI Radeon X700 Series, ATI Radeon X800 Series, ATI Radeon X850 Series, ATI Radeon X1050 Series, ATI Radeon X1300 Series, ATI Radeon X1550 Series, ATI Radeon X1600 Series, ATI Radeon X1650 Series, ATI Radeon X1800 Series, ATI Radeon X1900 Series, ATI Radeon X1200 Series, ATI Radeon X1250 Series ATI Radeon X2100 Series and ATI Radeon Xpress Series.
Most chipset IGPs won’t officially support Windows 7 which is kind of an issue if you ask us. The owners of the cards listed above won't get any support for any operating systems anymore and if you have in mind that most of the games on the market are DirectX 9 and they are programmed for consoles, it kind of makes things look bad. Nvidia's new Windows 7 driver supports cards all the way to Geforce 6 that is DirectX 9.
Stručně česky: WDDM 1.1 (Windws 7 driver model) vyžaduje DX10 hardware. Veškerý starší hardware, tzn. DX9 karty, musejí používat WDDM 1.0 (Vista driver model) tak jako tak.Dave Baumann píše:WDDM 1.1 requires DX10 hardware, anything prior to that is limited to WDDM 1.0 and hence uses the Vista driver model. Everyone is in the same boat here.
http://hardocp.com/news/2009/10/30/amd_ ... re_in_win7HardOCP píše:WDDM1.1 (Windows Display Driver Model) is the driver architecture required to run Windows7. To meet the Microsoft dictated requirements, GPU’s must be DirectX10 and later level hardware. So as stated on our website, Windows 7 users with DirectX 9 AMD graphics hardware can use the legacy Windows Vista WDDM 1.0 drivers (as it is not possible for DirectX 9 hardware to support the WDDM 1.1 driver requirements). On a separate note the move to "legacy driver" status happen when we moved our DirectX 9 based hardware to a legacy support structure back in March 2009, and we were quite public about this. We’ve been providing updates to this driver on a quarterly basis - in fact we will be posting a new legacy driver in the next few days.
Summary: Windows7 users on DirectX9 can and should use the legacy Catalyst driver which will be updated quarterly.

Nerozumím(?) Jak souvisí Catalysty s výkonem GTX285?spajdr píše:Podle toho testu kde je i NVIDIA to možná až takový rozdíl v jiných hrách neudělá u těch 9.12tek
Between Catalyst 9.10 WHQL and Catalyst 8.663.1, which is the beta driver of Catalyst 9.12, we saw an average framerate increase of 10.9 FPS, which was an increase of about 21%.
